1. Source and Treatment Process of Spray Paint Waste Gas

During the spray painting operation, liquid paint forms atomized particles under air pressure, and volatile organic pollutants such as benzene, toluene and xylene are generated. Such waste gas has high concentration and small particle size (mostly less than 10μm). Direct discharge will cause harm to the environment and human health. In order to meet environmental protection requirements, the combined process of water spray pretreatment and activated carbon adsorption purification is adopted to realize efficient treatment and stable compliant discharge of spray paint waste gas.

3. Description of Spray Paint Waste Gas Treatment Process

Cyclone Water Curtain Cabinet Pretreatment

As the first treatment process, spray paint waste gas enters the cyclone water curtain cabinet. Most paint mist and soluble pollutants are effectively removed through water curtain interception and washing, laying a foundation for subsequent treatment.

Water Spray Waste Gas Treatment Tower

The waste gas further enters the water spray tower. Through multi-layer spraying and packing layer, the gas and liquid are in full contact to remove residual paint mist, reduce dust and temperature, and significantly reduce the load of subsequent activated carbon equipment.

Secondary Activated Carbon Adsorption System

Granular activated carbon is used as the adsorption medium with specific surface area of 500–1500m²/g, which has excellent adsorption performance. Two stages of activated carbon adsorption are set for gradual purification to ensure the adsorption efficiency of low-concentration and large-air-volume organic waste gas. Activated carbon has strong adsorption capacity for VOCs such as benzene, toluene and xylene. The purified gas is discharged from the chimney at high altitude after reaching the standard through detection.

Induced Draft System

A pressurized induced draft fan is equipped to provide stable power for the flow of waste gas in the whole system, ensuring no leakage and fully closed collection and treatment process.

4. Discharge Standard of Spray Paint Waste Gas

After being treated by this system, the waste gas discharge strictly complies with the second time limit of Emission Standard of Volatile Organic Compounds for Furniture Manufacturing Industry (DB 44/814-2010) in Fujian Province:
Benzene emission concentration <1mg/m³
Toluene and xylene emission concentration <20mg/m³
Total VOCs emission concentration <30mg/m³
Discharge method: High-altitude discharge at 15 meters above the ground
