Coal-fired and gas-fired boilers, as well as kilns in industries such as ceramics and glass, generate large amounts of nitrogen oxides (NOx) and sulfur oxides (SOx) during operation. These are important precursors for the formation of acid rain and smog. Therefore, desulfurization and denitrification are indispensable links in flue gas purification.

1. Denitrification technology: How to Remove Nitrogen oxides (NOx)?

Denitrification mainly consists of two technical paths:

SNCR (Selective Non-Catalytic Reduction

Principle: Without the use of a catalyst, a reducing agent containing amino groups (such as ammonia water or urea solution) is directly injected into the high-temperature zone of the furnace (850-1100℃), where it undergoes a reduction reaction with NOx to generate harmless N₂ and H₂O.

Features: The system is simple and has a low investment cost, but the denitrification efficiency is moderate (30%-50%).

SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction

Principle: Under the action of a catalyst, a reducing agent (usually ammonia or urea) is injected into the flue gas and undergoes a selective reduction reaction with NOx at a relatively low temperature (280-400℃), generating N₂ and H₂O.

Features: The denitrification efficiency is extremely high (up to over 90%), making it the mainstream technology for achieving ultra-low emission standards. However, the investment and operation costs are relatively high.

2. Desulfurization Technology: How to remove Sulfur oxides (SOx)?

Core equipment: Desulfurization facilities (mostly wet desulfurization towers, essentially special spray towers)

Principle: The slurry of alkaline absorbents (such as limestone slurry, NaOH solution) is fully in contact with the flue gas in the spray tower to undergo chemical reactions, thereby absorbing and removing SO₂ from the flue gas.

Features: Mature technology, high desulfurization efficiency (>95%), and recyclable by-products. It is the most widely used desulfurization technology.
